Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Selects 3 Private Innovative Technologies in ITS Service Contest

[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 7th that it has finalized the selection of three projects for the ‘ITS Innovative Technology Contest,’ which applies innovative technologies and solutions owned by the private sector to the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and plans to pilot them on actual roads.

The Intelligent Transport System (ITS) refers to a transportation system that efficiently manages traffic information using advanced transportation technologies and improves traffic efficiency and safety through scientific and automated operations.

This contest aimed to discover innovative technologies held by the private sector, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data, as well as ITS services that the public can directly experience. The project call started from February 3 to 24, and the final evaluation was conducted on the 5th.

A total of 57 proposals were received. In the first stage evaluation, candidates were narrowed down to 13 projects focusing on the novelty, technical capability, and effectiveness of the project content. The second stage evaluation selected the final target projects based on detailed proposals.

The final evaluation committee, composed of nine private experts in the ITS field, conducted written and face-to-face evaluations from the 1st to the 5th and ultimately selected three projects.

The Ministry plans to carry out pilot projects applying the selected technologies to actual road sites by the end of this year and verify the project outcomes through effectiveness evaluations.

Juhyun Jong, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "This contest is the first procurement method attempted in the public ITS market, and it is expected to contribute not only to the technological advancement of small and strong enterprises but also to ITS technological innovation." He added, "We will continue to discover public-experience ITS services and traffic safety service models for ITS innovation."
