[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Jeon Dong-pyeong) announced on the 6th that it was selected as an excellent institution for the 2020 Community Health Survey by the Director of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and received an institutional commendation as a result of intensively promoting health promotion projects related to the quality of life of residents based on the community health survey.
The Community Health Survey has been conducted annually by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency since 2008 to produce community health statistics. Upon completion of the survey, not only are the major achievements of each local government shared, but awards are given to local governments that develop and operate programs tailored to local conditions.
In Yeongam-gun, as a preventive measure against chronic diseases such as arthritis, an elderly disease identified as a vulnerable group in the community health survey, 50 village senior centers within the county were selected, and about 500 people were targeted for early detection and proper management of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease patients. Measurements of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, waist circumference, and body composition tests were conducted, followed by support for lifestyle exercise instructors twice a week. These various program operations induced changes in healthy lifestyle practices and improved health management capabilities, receiving high evaluations.
Lee Guk-seon, Director of Yeongam-gun Public Health Center, said, “Being selected as an excellent institution in the community health survey evaluation will serve as an opportunity to analyze regional characteristics and health risk factors more meticulously and to do our best to provide customized health medical services to local residents.”
