"Unable to Sleep Due to Pain... Undergoing Psychiatric Treatment as Well"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Controversy has arisen after it was revealed that employees working part-time at a dog cafe in Gyeonggi-do were repeatedly bitten by a dangerous dog raised by the owner. In particular, one victim claimed that despite being in a serious condition requiring six surgeries, they did not receive proper compensation from the owner. It has been reported that the dog cafe euthanized the dangerous dog in question.
A, who identified themselves as a victim of the dog bite accident at the dog cafe, opened up on their Instagram on the 4th, saying, "On my third day working at the dog cafe, I was bitten by a large dog called Dogo Argentino." The Dogo Argentino is a type of hunting dog, typically standing 60?70 cm tall and weighing 40?45 kg, and is known as a representative dangerous dog.
A said, "On February 7th, the owner told me to come in early and prepare to open alone because they would be late due to personal reasons. Following the instructions, while trying to put a muzzle on the Dogo Argentino, I was bitten on the leg by the excited dog and dragged for about 6 to 7 minutes," expressing frustration.
They continued, "I tried to calm the dog and escape outside the cafe to get away, but it was a dangerous dog, so it was impossible. Thanks to the luck of my clothes being torn, I was able to break free from the dog and, overwhelmed by pain and fear, I ran away and told the owner I would call 119 (emergency services). However, the owner said they would come themselves and told me to wait."
A said, "Afterwards, when the owner arrived at the store, instead of calling 119, they first put the dog in the kennel and took me to the emergency room in their own car. They then told me to focus on treatment and that they would cover all costs."
However, the owner, who promised to cover all treatment costs, reportedly did not pay for non-insured treatment expenses. A said, "When I asked for help with the non-insured payments during the process of being transferred to a university hospital due to progressing necrosis, I was verbally abused with comments like 'Because of you, we can't even run our business and suffer losses.' In the end, I had to bear all financial burdens upon discharge," they lamented.
They also complained, "My left leg, which was bitten first, had torn flesh and muscles, fully ruptured with bones exposed, and my right arm, bitten later, had torn flesh and muscles. Overall, my limbs had multiple wounds and bruises, six finger wounds, and my left leg, right arm, and index finger have lost skin sensation."
A, who recently underwent a sixth surgery due to leg necrosis caused by the accident, said, "The cafe’s SNS account still uploads photos of dogs running around, even though they said they can’t run their business because of me and complained about damages. As the victim, I can’t sleep properly due to pain and suffer from phobias and nightmares, so I am also undergoing psychiatric treatment," they appealed.
Another victim, B, also stated on Instagram, "I was bitten by a dog on January 23rd and experienced a second dog bite accident on February 7th."
B explained that during the first dog bite accident, they sustained injuries including partial rupture of the right gastrocnemius muscle, partial rupture of the right soleus muscle, multiple lacerations on the right lower limb, lacerations on the right forearm, torn skin on the arm, and torn muscles and fat on the right rear part.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the dog cafe euthanized the dangerous dog involved.
