[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyundai Steel held the 'Hangang Forest Creation Event' on the 2nd in collaboration with the Hangang Business Headquarters and the Seoul Environmental Federation.
Hyundai Steel was allocated about 100 pyeong of space within Jamsil Hangang Park on the southern side of Jamsil Bridge by the Hangang Business Headquarters, where they planted various tree species such as Chinese hackberry, rugosa rose, spiraea, and arrowwood, providing a pleasant resting area for citizens visiting the Hangang River.
Moreover, the funds used for this Hangang forest creation were raised voluntarily by Hyundai Steel employees, adding greater significance to the project.
Since 2005, Hyundai Steel has been raising funds through a 'Matching Grant' system, where the company matches the amount donated by employees.
The funds collected through this method have been used over the past 17 years to support underprivileged neighbors, including improving housing conditions for energy-poor and low-income households through the 'House Repair of Hope' program, and donating fire extinguishers to people with disabilities and fire-vulnerable groups.
Additionally, social contribution projects themed around environment and art, such as the 'Atelier' which provides opportunities for creating and producing artworks using steel, have also been carried out, including the recent Hangang forest creation.
Going forward, Hyundai Steel plans to continue various social contribution activities using employee-raised funds to ensure that the sincerity of its employees is effectively utilized throughout society.
