[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] VUNO, a domestic medical artificial intelligence (AI) venture, announced on the 3rd that a paper proving the clinical value of its AI-based chest X-ray reading solution was published in 'Radiology,' the most prestigious journal in the field of radiology. Radiology is an SCI (Science Citation Index) level journal published by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) since 1923.

According to the research results of the paper, doctors with different levels of expertise, including radiology residents, non-thoracic radiology specialists, and thoracic radiology specialists, all showed an average reduction of about 50% in reading time when interpreting chest X-ray images using VUNO's 'VUNO Med Chest X-ray.' Additionally, diagnostic accuracy showed significant improvement across all indicators, including lesion detection.

VUNO Med Chest X-ray is an AI solution that detects major abnormalities such as nodules and pneumothorax from chest X-ray images and highlights lesion areas to assist medical staff in their judgment. It received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in 2019 and obtained the European CE certification last year. The European CE certification is an integrated certification granted upon passing the requirements and guidelines of the European Union (EU) Council.

VUNO registered both the planning and results of this study with the Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS) of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, ensuring high reliability. VUNO explained that the publication in the academic journal objectively demonstrates the clinical efficacy of VUNO Med Chest X-ray.

Jinkyung Sung, Chief Medical Officer at VUNO and the lead author of the paper, said, "It is meaningful that VUNO's clinical research was published in the most authoritative journal in the field of radiology," adding, "We expect that VUNO's solution, whose clinical value has been verified through this study, will provide practical help to more medical professionals both domestically and internationally."

Juhwan Jung, Vice President and CTO of VUNO, stated, "Many of VUNO's solutions are steadily being introduced into medical practice through research and development and clinical trials," and added, "We will continue to conduct research and development and publish various research results in world-class academic journals to prove the clinical value of VUNO solutions."
