Recruitment of 1-3 Students per School Recommended by Principals for 5th-6th Graders Until the 16th... Various Activities from School News Coverage and Promotion to Newsletter Planning and Article Writing
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “We are recruiting a children's honorary reporter group who will be the eyes and ears of children and quickly deliver news from all around Yeongdeungpo!”
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is recruiting children's honorary reporters by April 16 to help create the children’s tailored newsletter 'Kkum Namu Yeongdeungpo'.
Since June 2012, the district has been publishing the children's newsletter 'Kkum Namu Yeongdeungpo' once every season to deliver various information and district news suited to children's perspectives.
The newsletter consists of a total of 7 pages excluding the cover, featuring designs and themes reflecting the publishing season and timing, along with vivid voices from the children reporters.
The ‘36th Spring Issue’ published on the 5th includes free stories on topics such as the new semester and winter vacation, as well as various useful information for children like library openings and soccer class recruitment.
The children reporters participate directly from the planning stage to reporting and article writing, fostering affection and pride for Yeongdeungpo, and taking on the role of gathering and delivering diverse and useful information tailored to children’s perspectives.
In particular, they lead the delivery of children-tailored information and exchange of diverse information between schools through activities such as exploring major local facilities, experiencing beneficial programs through on-site reporting, and acting as school correspondents to deliver various news from each school.
Gang Ha-neul, a graduate of Seoul Shinyoung Elementary School who served as an honorary reporter last year, said, “As a children reporter, writing articles, conducting on-site reporting and interviews made me more interested in my surroundings and I enjoyed writing. The activity period was fulfilling and left good memories.”
The recruitment target is 5th and 6th grade students attending 23 elementary schools located in Yeongdeungpo-gu. Up to 3 students per school will be selected with the recommendation of the school principal.
Students wishing to participate as reporters should apply by mail to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Public Relations Media Division by April 16 with a recommendation from their school principal.
The honorary reporter activity period is one year. They will be officially appointed as honorary reporters in May this year and participate in producing the newsletter scheduled for publication in June.
The district plans to provide reporter notebooks and ID cards to the children reporters, and pay a fixed manuscript fee when their articles are published in the newsletter.
Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “I hope that through the children honorary reporter activities, they will develop thinking skills and creativity, and have opportunities to grow by sharing diverse ideas through broad exchanges with peers beyond the school fence.”
