[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province will reanalyze rainfall and land use status in river basins within the province this year and revise basic river plans that have reached or exceeded 10 years.

According to the province on the 1st, a total project cost of 4.2 billion KRW will be invested to commission a reestablishment service for 46 locations spanning 203.30 km, including Geumhakcheon and Hongjukcheon, flowing through six cities and counties such as Yongin-si and Yangju-si.

In northern Gyeonggi, where flood damage was frequent in the past, the Sincheon basin covering Yangju-si, Dongducheon-si, Pocheon-si, and Yeoncheon-gun includes 14 rivers (Hongjukcheon, Bangseongcheon, Yeongokcheon, Ugocheon, Seokucheon, Hyochoncheon, Ipamcheon, Deokgyecheon, Hoeamcheon, Sangpaecheon, Dongducheon, Sudongcheon, Galwolcheon, Daejeoncheon) totaling 70.28 km.

In southeastern Gyeonggi, the Gyeongancheon basin flowing through Yongin-si and Gwangju-si includes 32 rivers (Geumhakcheon, Yangjicheon, Namgokcheon, Daedaecheon, Jubukcheon, Geumeocheon, Yeongmuncheon, Sindaecheon, Yuwuncheon, Sinwoncheon, Chohacheon, Sangmicheon, Neungwoncheon, Sinhyeoncheon, Jiklicheon, Moklicheon, Jungdaecheon, Mokhyeoncheon, Beolwoncheon, Sango-hyangcheon, Sangyeolmicheon, Sinchoncheon, Yujeongcheon, Jinwucheon, Gungpyeongcheon, Sanicheon, Hakdongcheon, Sinwolcheon, Mugapcheon, Beoncheon, Eommicheon, Usancheon) totaling 133.02 km are also included.

The province plans to analyze the increase in localized heavy rainfall due to climate change and land use status caused by urban development within river basins to establish flood control plans for flood-prone areas.

Additionally, after reviewing the capacity of river facilities, it will specify whether to newly install, relocate, or dismantle them, so that even if the person in charge changes, river construction and maintenance tasks such as permits and approvals can be carried out according to the plan.

From May until July next year, the province plans to comprehensively analyze river conditions including terrain, climate, and regional characteristics through the commissioned service and prepare comprehensive maintenance and conservation management plans for flood defense.
