Professor Jeong Myong-ho of Chonnam National University Hospital, Invited Speaker at the Inaugural Conference of the Taiwan Myocardial Infarction Society

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Professor Jeong Myung-ho, a cardiology specialist at Chonnam National University Hospital, who has gained worldwide recognition in cardiology, recently received great attention from the Taiwanese medical community through a keynote speech at the Taiwan Myocardial Infarction Society (TAMIS) held in Taiwan.

This lecture was given at the invitation of David Huang, the inaugural president of the newly launched Taiwan Myocardial Infarction Society, serving as proof that Korean research and treatment of myocardial infarction are recognized globally.

According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 31st, Professor Jeong, who is the chairman of the Myocardial Infarction Research Group of the Korean Society of Cardiology, introduced the achievements of the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR), a Korean myocardial infarction registry study conducted over 16 years since 2005, during the online lecture.

The lecture summarized and organized 312 papers published in domestic and international academic journals through the research, covering the incidence of myocardial infarction in East Asians, characteristics of risk factors, risk assessment methods, current status of drug therapy, and interventional procedures.

The Taiwanese medical staff attending the conference gave enthusiastic applause after listening to Professor Jeong’s lecture and showed strong interest by asking focused questions.

Additionally, the Taiwan Myocardial Infarction Society decided to model TAMIR after KAMIR and plans to promote joint research between the two countries in the future.

Thus, following Japan (JAMIR) and China (CHAMIR), Taiwan has also been influenced by KAMIR to fully engage in myocardial infarction research, and it is expected to invigorate the establishment of the Asia myocardial infarction guidelines led by KAMIR in the future.

The KAMIR study has registered over 77,000 patients to date, and a total of 312 papers have been published in internationally renowned journals such as JAMA, BMJ, JACC, and Circulation, demonstrating world-class achievements.

These achievements are expected to enhance the status of Chonnam National University Hospital and greatly contribute to the establishment of the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Research Center.

Meanwhile, the Myocardial Infarction Research Group of the Korean Society of Cardiology announced an expert consensus statement on drug therapy for acute myocardial infarction last year, and this year plans to prepare an expert consensus statement on interventional treatment methods to establish treatment guidelines for Korean myocardial infarction patients in the future.
