[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 30th that citizen auditors composed of local residents will begin full-scale activities to improve residents' inconveniences, eradicate public officials' misconduct, realize autonomous decentralization, and create an honest public service society.
According to Nam-gu, the '6th Nam-gu Citizen Auditor Appointment Ceremony' was held on the afternoon of the same day in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office.
At the appointment ceremony, District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae and 21 residents selected as citizen auditors through an open recruitment attended.
The 6th Nam-gu citizen auditors consist of experts actively working in various fields such as administration, welfare, architecture, and distribution.
They are guaranteed a two-year term until 2023 and will serve as unpaid honorary positions.
In particular, they will suggest improvement measures for problems revealed during the promotion of local projects and participate in audits and integrity campaign activities conducted by the district office to create a clean public service society.
Additionally, they will accompany various completion inspections and construction site checks, and receive reports on misconduct and corruption, including abuse of power, which will be submitted to the relevant district office departments.
A Nam-gu official said, “We expect active activities from citizen auditors so that unreasonable systems and practices can be improved from the residents' perspective,” and added, “We will do our best to operate citizen auditors so that transparent and clean culture is established through expanded resident participation in administrative work and constructive suggestions.”
