[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 29th, Gwangju Metropolitan City held a ceremony for the delivery of safety certificates and a sponsorship agreement for the ‘2nd Safety Village, Safety School, Safety Company’ at the City Hall Business Room, attended by about 10 people including Mayor Lee Yong-seop, Dong-gu District Mayor Im Taek, Dongmyeong-dong Residents’ Autonomy Association Chairman Kim In-ju, Principal Go Min-su of Seojin Girls’ High School, President Jo Eun-sik of Dongyang Jeonggong, and CEO Kim Kang of Seoyeon ENS Co., Ltd.

The ‘2nd Safety Village, Safety School, Safety Company’ were selected as Dongmyeong-dong, Seojin Girls’ High School, and Dongyang Jeonggong, respectively.

Since 2019, Gwangju has selected and supported safety villages, safety schools, and safety companies to motivate citizens’ voluntary participation in safety and to make Gwangju the safest city nationwide by spreading safety awareness.

In particular, since April last year, a basic plan was established and opinions were collected through a task force (TF) team composed of about 10 members including district offices, the education office, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and experts.

Also, through non-face-to-face meetings, on-site investigations, and expert consulting, detailed selection criteria and evaluation indicators were prepared. Among the 23 applicants in the November contest, 11 passed the first evaluation, and on December 18, a final evaluation committee was held to select the final three.

This year, the evaluation included bonus points for field-specific quarantine activities and measures for COVID-19 prevention, based on safety as a fundamental criterion.

Dong-gu Dongmyeong-dong contributed to spreading a village safety culture by strengthening residents’ safety capabilities through the formation of a residents’ council and safety keeper practice group, and installing safety facilities in vulnerable areas such as logo projectors and visible fire extinguishers.

Seojin Girls’ High School received high evaluations for its life-respecting education and campaigns promoting consideration for others to prevent school violence, and for operating the nation’s first classroom-type safety experience center as a measure to reduce safety accidents.

Dongyang Jeonggong Co., Ltd. was recognized for excellence in disaster prevention activities involving all employees, including continuous process improvements on the manufacturing PRESS LINE to establish automated facilities and conducting response training to prevent the three major manufacturing disasters of entrapment, falls, and collisions.

Gwangju awarded safety certificates to these three places and provided 10 million KRW each for safety facility project expenses.

Following this, Mayor Lee Yong-seop signed a business agreement with CEO Kim Kang of Seoyeon ENS Co., Ltd. to create a safe city through the installation of safety infrastructure in safety villages and safety schools.

Seoyeon ENS Co., Ltd., a specialized company for traffic safety facilities in the Gwangju area, will support the installation of safety facilities, consulting, and after-sales service worth about 20 million KRW annually for the selected safety villages and safety schools.

Through this certificate awarding and agreement signing, it is expected to establish a foundation for a model safety city and contribute to spreading citizens’ safety awareness.

Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “When villages, schools, and companies are designated as safety models, it not only spreads positive effects to the surroundings but also has great significance in making Gwangju a safe and livable community,” and added, “I hope this designation will serve as an opportunity to actively promote the spread of a safety culture.”
