[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Hwaseong Valve's stock price is on the rise. This appears to be due to the news highlighting that an outside director is an alumnus of the same university as former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who recently topped the presidential candidate approval ratings.
As of 10:19 AM on the 29th, Hwaseong Valve's stock price recorded 7,170 KRW, up 5.28% compared to the previous day. Although there is no business connection, the stock has been classified as a theme stock following the survey results showing former Prosecutor General Yoon's top approval rating and the news that the outside director is a fellow alumnus from Seoul National University Law School.
On the same day, Realmeter (CEO Taeksoo Lee), a public opinion polling agency, conducted and announced a preference survey for 15 major political figures from both ruling and opposition parties for the next presidential candidate in March, commissioned by 'OhmyNews.' The results showed former Prosecutor General Yoon rising significantly by 18.9% from the previous month to 34.4%. Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung ranked second with 21.4%, down 2.2 percentage points from the previous month. The gap in approval ratings between Yoon and Lee was 13.0 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error (±1.9 percentage points).
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system, attorney Shin Min-soo, who graduated from Seoul National University Law School and served as a chief judge at Ulsan District Court, is currently registered as a non-executive outside director of Hwaseong Valve.
Meanwhile, this approval rating survey was conducted over five days from the 22nd to the 26th, contacting 39,421 people aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final response of 2,547 people (response rate 6.5%). The survey was conducted using a mixed method of wireless (10%) telephone interviews and wireless (70%) and wired (20%) automated responses, with random dialing through a sampling frame combining wireless (80%) and wired (20%) phone numbers. The sampling error is ±1.9 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For more details, please refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
