KT Skylife Launches TV Apps Including 'sky Album' and 'TJ Karaoke'

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT Skylife announced on the 29th that it has launched two new TV app services, 'sky Album' and 'TJ Karaoke.'

sky Album is a digital album that stores photos and videos in cloud space, allowing users to view them in high definition on TV and share them quickly and easily. It was developed based on the idea that viewing the same photos on a mobile phone and on a large TV screen offers a different visual experience. Users can customize it as a family-only TV album or use it as a frame by adding landscape photos.

In addition to accessing the service through the home menu, users can simply press the channel number (777) to view photos, simplifying the service so that all customers can use it as easily as watching TV. Photos and videos are stored in the cloud rather than on the set-top box, eliminating concerns about data loss or damage.

Using sky Album makes photo sharing easier. Even non-Skylife subscribers can receive invitations on their mobile phones to share photos and videos. For example, if the parents are Skylife subscribers, their children who are not subscribers can still send photos via mobile phone.

To commemorate the launch, Skylife is offering 3 gigabytes (GB) of free cloud storage for sky Album experience to Android receiver customers. Depending on photo size, about 500 photos can be used without additional charges. If more storage is needed, plans range from 50GB to 1 terabyte (TB) at monthly fees between 1,100 and 22,000 KRW.

Skylife plans to update gallery content in sky Album to allow users to enjoy artworks by famous artists and promote customer participation services such as family photo contests. They are also preparing expansions such as automatic photo recognition to categorize albums and offline services that digitally scan and provide physical photos.

Launched simultaneously, TJ Karaoke is a service likely to be welcomed in the COVID era, where time spent at home has increased. It targets middle-aged and older adults who want to sing along beyond just watching trot music broadcasts, as well as families with children who enjoy children's songs.

Like sky Album, TJ Karaoke can be easily accessed by entering the channel number (778). The service offers 13 music genres ranging from trot to idol dance songs, along with over 20 recommended themes. The monthly subscription fee is 4,290 KRW, and the annual contract plan costs 3,300 KRW per month. Even without purchasing a subscription, users can try up to two songs per day for free.

Kim Cheolsu, CEO of Skylife, stated, “Utilizing Skylife’s strength in the Android platform, we have prepared a TV app service that allows customers, who are spending more time at home due to COVID, to experience empathy and solidarity within families. We will continue to provide various services so that customers can enjoy new experiences through Skylife.”
