Gwangju City, Urban Regeneration Idea Contest

Gwangju City, Urban Regeneration Idea Contest

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 28th that it will hold the '2021 Urban Regeneration Idea Contest' together with the Gwangju Urban Regeneration Community Center to seek solutions to urban problems by discovering practical business models for the Urban Regeneration New Deal.

This contest, under the theme of 'Discovering Practical Business Models for Gwangju Urban Regeneration New Deal,' will accept applications from the 1st to the 30th of next month. The contest area targets the Gwangju Urban Regeneration Activation Area, and any Gwangju citizen can participate.

The contest fields are divided into execution-type and concretization-type ideas to realize a Gwangju-style Urban Regeneration New Deal project.

The execution-type calls for ideas such as planning urban regeneration hub space operation programs and necessary projects for the Urban Regeneration Support Center, targeting New Deal selected areas within the activation area. The concretization-type calls for ideas for urban regeneration preliminary projects in preparation stages, targeting areas within the activation area other than the New Deal selected areas.

Submitted ideas will undergo document screening and presentation evaluation. Teams passing the first document screening will participate in the second presentation evaluation called the 'On-site Ideathon Moving the City' to develop their ideas into practical use.

Selected outstanding ideas through the contest will receive support for applying and executing the business model together with the Gwangju Urban Regeneration Community Center. Six teams will be selected as winners and awarded a total prize of 10 million KRW.

Applications can be made by referring to the contest webpage, and from the 1st of next month, information will also be available on the city’s official website and the Gwangju Urban Regeneration Community Center website.

Im Chan-hyeok, head of the city’s Urban Regeneration Policy Division, said, “We hope that many innovative ideas will be gathered so that the various ideas discovered through this Urban Regeneration Idea Contest can be utilized in Urban Regeneration New Deal projects and others.”
