Pledging Legislative Activities with Residents in the New Era of Local Autonomy and Decentralization
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Seocho District Council (Chairperson Kim Ansook) held a commemorative ceremony in the main assembly hall on the 26th to mark the '30th Anniversary of Local Councils.'
This ceremony was organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the revival of local autonomy and was conducted in compliance with COVID-19 social distancing measures.
The Seocho District Council, as a representative body directly elected by residents, took its historic first step through the autonomous district council member elections held in March 1991 and has since continued its role of monitoring and checking the executive branch.
Chairperson Kim Ansook stated, “We are witnessing the historic moment of the 30th anniversary of the revival of local councils. Over time, the status of basic councils has risen, and grassroots democracy has brought tangible changes to residents' lives.” She concluded her remarks by saying, “As a new era of decentralized autonomy opens, let us work together through communication to mediate conflicts and take one step closer to becoming a Seocho District Council that serves its residents better.”
