Recognition for Contributions in Creative Innovation and Health and Welfare Sectors
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Heo Seonsik] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 26th that it won the Grand Prize in the ‘2021 12th Gwangju-Jeonnam Local Autonomy Management Awards’ held for 27 local governments in Gwangju and Jeonnam.
The county is known to have received uniformly high scores across a total of seven fields, including creative innovation.
First, in the creative innovation field, the county was recognized for establishing six major policies and implementation strategies to realize the administrative goal of ‘Gokseong, No.1 in Citizen Happiness Index’ and for actively striving to create administrative achievements that citizens can feel in their daily lives.
In the health and welfare field, public recognition was given for projects such as the construction of the Gokseong County Veterans Hall to strengthen support for national merit recipients and the installation of gas safety devices (timer cocks) in elderly households vulnerable to disasters.
In the culture and tourism field, the county received favorable reviews as a policy with comparative advantage over other local governments by creating a waterfront tourism hub from Train Village along the Seomjin River to Amnok, building tourism infrastructure, inducing active participation of residents through the development of resident-led travel products, and supporting private-led food improvement and service enhancement.
In the safety and environment field, efforts to reduce air pollution and use clean energy were noted; in the administrative service field, the operation of the ‘2020 Hope Gokseong Friendly Civil Service Office’ was highlighted; and in the economic revitalization field, policies to revitalize traditional markets and expand mobile gift certificates attracted attention.
In the human resource development field, the implementation of community-based lifelong education programs and support for youth self-directed activities were cited as major achievements.
Yoo Geun-gi, Governor of Gokseong-gun, said, “This Grand Prize award is an achievement made together by the citizens of Gokseong and public officials,” and added, “We will continue to seek definite changes in the region and devote all our efforts to making Gokseong a place where everyone from children to adults can be happy.”
