[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Bucheon Cultural Foundation in Gyeonggi has developed a 'Home Stay Safety Kit' that allows individuals to self-assess safety factors in indoor living, which have increased due to COVID-19, and helps prevent accidents. 'Jipkok' is a newly coined term reflecting the COVID-19 era of staying cooped up at home.
According to the foundation on the 25th, the kit is a result of the 'Urban Lifestyle Design Project' under the cultural city development initiative, created through joint research between the foundation and the Bucheon University Life Safety Design Research Center.
During the production process, opinions from local design experts, research students from Bucheon University's Interior Architecture Design Department, and advice from the Bucheon Fire Station were incorporated to enhance usability by including types of safety accidents that can occur inside and outside the home and prevention guidelines.
The components include a self-diagnosis checklist to verify home safety elements, a fire blanket, outlet safety caps, first aid management stickers, and a versatile copper handle, among others.
Recently, as health authorities warned that half of the individual transmissions of COVID-19 occur among family members, the kit was prepared to prevent infections within families and to prepare for fires and electrical accidents that may occur inside the home.
In particular, the 19-item self-diagnosis checklist was created based on a citizen awareness survey regarding types of safety accidents experienced at home after the spread of COVID-19, locations, and knowledge of response methods.
The kit is scheduled to be distributed to over 200 citizens and artists through the foundation’s housing environment improvement project and Bucheon City Health Center’s maternal and child health project.
A representative of the Bucheon Cultural Foundation stated, "We will continue to develop lifestyle designs and services focused on life safety, convenience, and environmental hygiene, and plan to increase opportunities for citizen participation and proposals in the public design sector. Marking the foundation’s 20th anniversary this year, we will also conduct year-round COVID-19 prevention campaigns such as the '20 Steps for Cultural Citizens Social Distancing'."
