[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National University (President Park Min-seo) announced on the 24th that a total of three research projects were finally selected for the Korea Research Foundation's "2021 First Half Individual Research Support Project (Outstanding Early-Career Researcher)" supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The individual research support project in the field of science and technology aims to foster excellent researchers by stimulating researchers' creative research motivation and maximizing research capabilities. It supports the realization of world-class science and technology and enhances national competitiveness by focusing on research based on creative and challenging ideas to achieve a qualitative leap in basic research.
This year, Mokpo National University applied for a total of six projects in the outstanding early-career researcher category of this project, and three projects (Principal Investigators: Professor Son Seok-gyun of the Department of Physics, Professor Lee Jae-hee of the Department of Electronic and Information Communication Engineering, and Professor Jeong Si-won of the Department of Chemistry) were finally selected. This is an achievement showing a high selection rate of 50% compared to the number of applications.
Going forward, the selected principal investigators at Mokpo National University will receive a total of about 900 million KRW over 3 to 5 years per project to actively conduct basic research in areas such as the study of two-dimensional topological semimetal properties of graphite, research on improving prediction and operation of renewable energy aggregated power resources, and development of synthesis methods for new nitrogen-heterocyclic compounds.
Jung Seok-won, Director of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, said, "The high selection rate of three projects in the outstanding early-career researcher category of the first half individual research support project this year proves the excellent research capabilities of early-career professors at Mokpo National University," and added, "We will also make every effort at the university level to provide generous support so that researchers can carry out highly creative individual research and cultivate basic research capabilities through the execution of the selected projects."
