[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Disaster Humanities Research Project Group at Chosun University announced on the 24th that it will hold a disaster humanities lecture series covering historical events such as the Jeju 4·3 Uprising, the Yeosu-Suncheon Rebellion, the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, as well as recent large-scale state violence by the Myanmar military junta.
The lecture topics include ▲The Truth and Reconciliation of the Jeju 4·3 Incident: Focusing on the Experience of Past Settlements (Professor Go Seong-man, Jeju National University) ▲The Yeosu-Suncheon Rebellion, Its Fabrication and Trauma (Historian Joo Cheol-hee) ▲State Violence 5·18, 40+1: Looking Ahead 40 Years Later (Professor No Young-gi, Chosun University) ▲A Reflection on Human Rights for the State through Myanmar in 2021 (Professor Kim Seong-won, Busan University of Foreign Studies).
The lecture series will be held biweekly from April 26 to May 7 and will be conducted in a blended format combining online (ZOOM) and offline sessions.
The general public can also watch the lectures via the online video conferencing program Zoom.
Gang Hee-sook, head of the Disaster Humanities Research Project Group at Chosun University, stated, “As can be seen from the recent Myanmar situation, state violence is a representative social disaster that cannot be excluded from disaster humanities research,” adding, “Through this disaster humanities lecture series, we aim to understand the substantive truth and the path to reconciliation.”
