[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, actively denied the ruling party's allegations of 'self-compensation' in Naegok-dong. He confirmed with documents that the designation of the Naegok-dong area as a rental housing construction district was made during former President Roh Moo-hyun's administration.
On the 22nd, Oh's campaign issued a statement saying, "We have obtained documents showing that the government reviewed and approved a national project to promote the development-restricted area summarized as the Naegok district in Seoul as a national rental housing complex," adding, "The land inherited by Oh's wife was included in the plan from the initial plan of the Roh Moo-hyun administration in 2004. No matter how much they want to claim it was 'Oh Se-hoon's self-designation,' it turns out it was a 'Roh Moo-hyun administration self-designation.'"
According to the campaign, in March 2007, during the Roh Moo-hyun administration, the Central Urban Planning Committee's 2nd Subcommittee reviewed and approved a national project proposal to develop 740,000 square meters of development-restricted areas in Naegok-dong, Sinwon-dong, Yeomgok-dong, and Wonji-dong, Seocho-gu, into a housing development project as a national rental housing complex. This project was discussed as part of fulfilling the Roh Moo-hyun administration's pledge to build one million national rental housing units.
Therefore, since the Naegok-dong district was already designated as a national rental housing district during the Roh Moo-hyun administration, the allegations of self-compensation are inaccurate.
Oh's campaign questioned, "Would the Roh Moo-hyun administration have pushed for district designation to give special favors to candidate Oh Se-hoon?" and demanded an apology from candidate Park's side and sincere cooperation with the prosecution's investigation.
