[Asia Economy Reporter Nana] A woman in her 50s who was punished six times for drunk driving and drove again under the influence without a license during her probation period was sentenced to prison.

On the 20th, Chuncheon District Court announced that it sentenced A (53, female), who was indicted for drunk driving and driving without a license under the Road Traffic Act, to 1 year and 3 months in prison.

A was tried for driving 13 km in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, without a license with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.095% in the early morning of September 23, 2019.

Before that, A had been punished six times for drunk driving from 2007 to 2018, including fines, suspended prison sentences, fines, actual imprisonment, and suspended prison sentences.

In December 2018, she was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 3-year probation and probation supervision, but failed to comply with the probation conditions, and was sentenced to prison last September after the probation was revoked.

Judge Jung explained the sentencing reason, saying, "Despite six drunk driving offenses and at least one prior offense of driving without a license, she committed the crime again during the probation period. Considering that the blood alcohol level cannot be regarded as low, it is difficult to avoid severe punishment."

He added, "However, we took into account her sincere remorse, close family ties, and the fact that she is currently serving a prison sentence."
