Banwol·Siwha Industrial Complex Achieves Advanced Manufacturing Innovation through Smart Industrial Complex and Gyeonggi-do Green New Deal Projects
Advanced Companies Continue to Settle in Siwhanarae Area, Including Kakao Data Center Scheduled to Move into Hanyang University ERICA Campus
The Banwol·Sihwa National Industrial Complex, located in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, is emerging as a key hub leading eco-friendly advanced industries, supported by the government and Gyeonggi Province.
In 2019, the Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex was the first to be selected in the government’s announced ‘Smart Industrial Complex’ implementation plan. The government plans to develop Banwol·Sihwa, the largest cluster of small and medium-sized enterprises in Korea, into a smart industrial complex that realizes innovation in manufacturing through data connection and sharing among resident companies. This is expected to improve corporate productivity, create a pleasant working environment, and generate various benefits including job creation through startup and new industry activation.
Additionally, Gyeonggi Province selected Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex as a ‘Gyeonggi-type Green New Deal’ project site in connection with the government’s Korean-style New Deal project, ‘Smart Green Industrial Complex.’ The plan is to transform the Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex, which was centered on carbon energy and emitted air pollutants and was outdated, into a smart and eco-friendly manufacturing space by expanding the supply of renewable energy. Various related organizations, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ansan City, and the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, will cooperate on this. Through the Gyeonggi-type Green New Deal project, Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex, reborn as a low-carbon advanced industrial complex combining digital and eco-friendly elements, is expected to establish a core foundation for manufacturing integrated with advanced technology.
As Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex transforms into an eco-friendly green industrial complex, shedding its previous image and leading manufacturing innovation, many IT companies are hoping to move into Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex and the adjacent developing Sihwa MTV area. In fact, Daum Kakao has decided to invest a total of 400 billion KRW to build a data center within Hanyang University ERICA Campus Innovation Park, leading real estate experts to say that the Ansan area could become the second Pangyo.
Moreover, Ansan’s designation as the first small but strong research and development special zone in the metropolitan area is also expected to attract many companies. Various tax reduction benefits are applied to research institute companies and those selected for advanced technology. With the influx of young and talented individuals and the increasing number of people moving to Ansan, the surrounding living infrastructure is also expected to improve significantly.
A local official stated, “Not only was Banwol·Sihwa National Industrial Complex the first to be selected for the government’s Smart Industrial Complex project, but it is also linked to the Gyeonggi-type Green New Deal project, so the area is bustling with expectations to achieve both smart and eco-friendly manufacturing.” He added, “After Daum Kakao’s data center was confirmed to be established at Hanyang University ERICA Campus, other advanced IT companies are also showing interest in moving into Sihwa MTV.”
Meanwhile, ‘Sihwaho Lagoon In Terrace,’ located at the center of changes in Banwol·Sihwa Industrial Complex and the Sihwa MTV area, is attracting much attention.
‘Sihwaho Lagoon In Terrace’ takes advantage of its location closest to Sihwaho Lake and will be the first in Korea to apply an inter-terrace design to all units, allowing residents to experience lagoon life from inside their homes.
Located in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, the complex boasts the largest scale and highest height in the area with a total of 8 buildings, 2,554 units, and a maximum of 49 floors. This complex is expected to enjoy the landmark premium of Sihwanarae, which is being developed as a marine leisure complex city.
