[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] As Song Jeong-seok, chairman of Samgang Metal Co., Ltd., and Jang In-hwa, chairman of Dongil Steel Co., Ltd., are set for a fierce showdown over the position of chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an extraordinary general meeting to elect the 24th chairman will be held.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Heo Yong-do) announced that it will hold an extraordinary general meeting at 2 p.m. on the 17th to elect the 24th chairman and executives of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry elected 120 members, including 100 general members and 20 special members, through the 24th member election held on the 10th. In this extraordinary general meeting, the next chairman will be elected through a vote by the 120 members.
Members who wish to run for chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry must register as chairman candidates by receiving recommendations from at least five members or special members by the day before the extraordinary general meeting for executive elections.
Currently, the chairman candidates who have completed their application are Song Jeong-seok, chairman of Samgang Metal, and Jang In-hwa, chairman of Dongil Steel.
At the extraordinary general meeting held on the 17th, the candidate who obtains the majority of valid votes through a secret ballot by the members will be elected as the next chairman.
Before voting, each candidate will have about 10 minutes to present their platform, and the main election will be conducted under the supervision of six election management committee members composed of outsiders to ensure the fairness of voting and counting.
After the voting results are announced, the acceptance speech of the elected chairman and the election of three auditors will follow, and the selection of 18 vice-chairmen and 30 standing members will be decided by the screening committee consisting of five members, including the newly elected chairman.
Typically, the selection of executives is finalized at a separately held screening committee meeting with the consent of the members.
Heo Yong-do, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who will preside over the extraordinary general meeting, said, “Although there was an overheated tendency due to the first member election, I hope both candidates will accept the results and show consideration for each other so that the flower of harmony in the business community can bloom.”
Chairman Heo also said, “I deeply thank the members who trusted and supported me for three years. The passage of the special law for the construction of Gadeok New Airport is an unforgettable moment, and I will continue to contribute to the development of Busan’s economy,” concluding his final remarks as his term ends.
