[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The nighttime colors of landmark buildings associated with Busan will turn green for a day. These buildings will participate in the ‘Global Greening’ event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Busan’s representative landmarks, Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Busan Cinema Center, and Busan Tower, will be illuminated with green lights between 6 PM and 11 PM on March 17, coloring the night cityscape.
The Busan Metropolitan City (Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin) announced that on this day, to commemorate Ireland’s ‘St. Patrick’s Day,’ the Busan Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Busan Cinema Center, and Busan Tower will participate in the ‘Global Greening’ event hosted by the Embassy of Ireland in Korea.
This event commemorates St. Patrick’s passing on March 17 by illuminating landmark buildings around the world, including in Ireland, with green lights symbolizing Saint Patrick.
Busan first participated in the Global Greening event in 2017 with Gwangandaegyo Bridge, alongside Seoul’s Sebitseom and over 190 famous tourist sites worldwide. In 2018, the Busan Cinema Center joined, and in 2019, both the Busan Cinema Center and Busan Tower participated.
The landmarks participating in the Global Greening event will be widely promoted worldwide through the social media channels of Irish embassies and Tourism Ireland across various countries.
In 2021, Busan will widely promote the beautiful scenes of its landmarks illuminated in green to the world.
Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin of Busan said, “Busan’s participation in the Global Greening event, which involves famous landmarks from around the world, is not only an opportunity to enhance friendly exchanges with Ireland but also a great chance to promote Busan to global SNS users.”
