[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] KT Skylife will support small and medium-sized PP (broadcast channel usage providers) with a total of 200 million KRW in content production costs and jointly develop broadcasting technology.

According to Skylife on the 15th, the company signed a win-win agreement with the Small and Medium Broadcasting Channel Association on the 12th at its headquarters in Sangam-dong regarding this matter.

First, through this agreement, Skylife plans to support small and medium-sized PPs with a total of 200 million KRW in content production costs and cooperate to have the produced content scheduled on major MPPs (multiple channel usage providers), aiming for future overseas exports. Prior to the signing ceremony, Skylife selected seven programs as support targets through the ‘Small and Medium PP Production Support Project.’ The selected channels are ▲WeLike ▲HobbyLife ▲GTV·UHD Dream ▲FISHING TV ▲I.NET ▲Mountain TV ▲Classica. Production costs will be supported for a total of 34 programs (including 22 UHD programs).

Additionally, Skylife will jointly develop its AI technology solution ‘AI EAR’ with the association and promote social contribution projects utilizing it. The AI EAR solution is an AI broadcasting technology that reads TV audio and automatically converts it into subtitles. It will be applied first to VOD content to provide content for subscribers with hearing impairments.

Furthermore, both parties agreed to expand the ‘Love Antenna’ project, which provides free broadcasting services using the ‘AI EAR’ solution, focusing on facilities for the hearing impaired. Love Antenna is Skylife’s representative social contribution project that provides UHD TVs and satellite broadcasting to welfare facilities and neighbors who are excluded from cultural benefits due to regional characteristics and have difficulty watching TV, enabling them to watch clear UHD broadcasts.

Han Chansu, president of the Small and Medium Broadcasting Channel Association, said, “We are grateful that Skylife not only provides practical support to help small and medium-sized PPs produce content but also gives us opportunities to participate in broadcasting technology development and social contribution projects.”

Kim Cheolsu, CEO of Skylife, stated, “In the content production environment contracted by COVID-19, we hope that today’s signing ceremony will serve as an opportunity to establish a deeper partnership and contribute to the growth and development of K-content.”
