[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] The Democratic Party's 'Busan Local Corruption Investigation Special Committee' claimed on the 14th that "there is a suspicion of preferential allocation involving Jo Mo, the head of the election campaign headquarters of the People Power Party's Busan mayoral candidate Park Hyung-jun's campaign," in relation to the preferential sale allegations of Busan LCT (LCT).
Jang Kyung-tae, the committee's secretary, stated at a National Assembly press conference, "The committee reviewed the entire registry of 1,443 households at Haeundae LCT and cross-checked the list of preferential allocations."
He asserted, "Jo Mo, a former director of KBS Busan Headquarters who was recruited as the head of Park's campaign headquarters in January, purchased an apartment on the 83rd floor of Building A in October 2015," adding, "The apartment is trading at around 3.5 billion KRW, suggesting a profit of 1.5 to 2 billion KRW compared to the original sale price."
Jang said, "The committee has confirmed a significant portion of about ten corruption and misconduct suspicions involving the Park Hyung-jun family," and "plans to disclose them sequentially."
Jo issued a statement rebutting, saying, "I applied for the subscription with a normal subscription savings account at the initial sale point," and "I won first priority and paid the deposit."
Jo emphasized, "This is an election interference act aimed at influencing the election by raising groundless suspicions using parliamentary immunity ahead of the Busan mayoral election," and stated that he will take all legal measures.
