[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Line Games, a subsidiary of Naver, is reportedly seeking large-scale investment from Tencent and others in China.
According to industry sources on the 14th, several domestic companies including Tencent are preparing new investments in Line Games. The total investment amount is expected to reach around 100 billion KRW.
In particular, Line Games is said to have been valued at about 1 trillion KRW after the investment. This is nearly double the 450 billion KRW valuation it received two years ago when it attracted investment from the private equity firm Anchor Equity Partners in 2018.
However, a Line Games official avoided confirming the investment, stating, "There is a lot of interest from various parties, but nothing has been finalized yet."
Line Games, also an affiliate of the global mobile messenger platform LINE, operates businesses based on diversity and expertise in areas such as game development and publishing. Leveraging development know-how gained through ‘Dragon Flight,’ it has successfully built its capabilities as a global publisher by servicing titles like ‘Destiny Child’ and ‘Exos Heroes.’
Additionally, it has released its self-developed console package title ‘Buried Stars,’ showcasing a gaming business that spans mobile, PC, and console platforms.
If this investment is formalized, Line Games is expected to diversify its business by acquiring various IPs (intellectual properties) and game companies.
