[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Kim Bong-jin, chairman of Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, revealed a concrete plan on the 12th to donate his assets worth 500 billion KRW to society through 'The Giving Pledge.'
He stated that he would establish a fund of 10 billion KRW each for medical and living expenses for restaurant owners and scholarships for their children. This applies to all restaurant owners regardless of whether they are affiliated with Baedal Minjok. Additionally, to address educational inequality, he plans to provide 10,000 laptops to low-income students.
On the morning of the same day, Chairman Kim posted on his Facebook, "I would like to share one by one the things I have prepared since recently declaring my social contribution through The Giving Pledge."
He said, "The first step in social contribution is to support educational inequality issues and restaurant owners."
First, Chairman Kim said, "We will establish a fund of 10 billion KRW to support medical and living expenses for restaurant owners who face sudden accidents or illnesses that cause difficulties in their livelihood."
He added that this fund targets restaurant owners in difficult circumstances regardless of their affiliation with Baedal Minjok. The 10 billion KRW fund will be prepared by donating personal assets over five years.
He continued, "We plan to provide scholarships for the children of restaurant owners both domestically and internationally to help them continue their studies despite difficult circumstances."
