Seoul Digital Foundation Recruits 'Eodina Support Team' to Enhance Digital Skills of Older Adults

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Digital Foundation announced on the 11th that it will operate the ‘Eodina Support Team’ and recruit 100 instructors to help elderly people who are struggling to adapt to digital and non-face-to-face lifestyles in the post-COVID-19 era.

The ‘Eodina Support Team’ is an abbreviation of ‘Elderly Digital Outing Support Team,’ a digital education project conducted by the Seoul Digital Foundation since 2019 to enhance the digital device utilization capabilities of the elderly population.

The Eodina Support Team education is conducted in a one-on-one format where instructors meet elderly individuals who have difficulty using digital devices and teach them how to use smartphones, kiosks, and other digital devices.

In particular, with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic leading to the expansion of non-face-to-face services, digital exclusion among the elderly has deepened. In response, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced a ‘Comprehensive Digital Capability Enhancement Plan’ last year. Accordingly, the foundation is significantly expanding the scale of education this year. Additionally, repetitive education through educational robots will enhance the educational effect for the elderly. The educational robot ‘Riku,’ developed by the foundation last year, enables interactive communication at the elderly’s level, making it effective for repetitive practice of what was learned through the Eodina Support Team.

The selected ‘Eodina Support Team’ instructors will participate in this educational program as instructors for eight months starting in April. They can work up to 24 hours per month and will receive an activity fee of 22,000 KRW per hour.

Those who wish to participate can submit an application through the ‘Smart Seoul Portal’ by the 24th. Final selection will be made through document screening and interviews. For more details, contact the person in charge of the Eodina Support Team.

Lee Won-mok, Acting Director of the Seoul Digital Foundation, said, “Interest in the digital exclusion problem of the elderly is growing day by day, but effective support measures are still lacking. We will strive to create a digitally inclusive city Seoul where all elderly people can easily and conveniently use non-face-to-face services through the Eodina Support Team education.”
