Over 1,300 Students from Yeongdeungpo Elementary, Middle, and High Schools to Benefit from Improved Commute Routes Ahead of New Semester... Completion Scheduled for Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will complete the "School Route Improvement Project around Yeonghwa Elementary School" next month to create a safe and convenient environment for children in time for the new semester.
The area around 68-23 Daebang-dong, where the school route improvement project is underway, serves as a main school route for about 1,300 students attending Yeonghwa Elementary School and Yeongdeungpo Middle and High Schools.
The existing school route in front of Yeonghwa Elementary School was only 1 meter wide, and the access road towards Yeongdeungpo Middle and High Schools was narrow and steep, posing a constant risk of safety accidents for students commuting to and from school.
Accordingly, since 2019, the district has been promoting the project in cooperation with the school, Seoul City, and the Office of Education, and after gathering opinions from parents, began full-scale school route expansion construction in October last year.
With a budget of 680 million KRW, the project includes ▲ installation of a retaining wall in front of Yeongdeungpo Middle School (31m in length) ▲ expansion of the school route in front of Yeonghwa Elementary School to 3 meters ▲ widening the access road in front of Yeongdeungpo Middle and High Schools from the existing 9?15 meters to 10.5?19 meters. On the sloped road, the project also involves ▲ design pavement blocks (385㎡) ▲ pedestrian protective fences (16m) ▲ asphalt pavement (194㎡) ▲ anti-slip pavement (329㎡), and all construction is scheduled to be completed next month.
For detailed information regarding the construction, inquiries can be made to the Dongjak-gu Road Management Division.
Baek Won-gi, head of the Road Management Division, said, "With this school route improvement project, we will ensure the completion of the construction so that not only students but also local residents can have a safe walking path," and added, "We will continue to discover and promote road improvement projects to enhance pedestrian safety and convenience."
