E&Corporation Acquires Liquid Waste Treatment Business

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] E&C Corporation announced on the 10th that it will acquire the largest designated liquid waste treatment and recycling business division in Korea from Inbiotec, a company specializing in waste and wastewater treatment.

Inbiotec's Dangjin plant has grown at an average annual rate of 39% since commencing operations in 2018. It is the only facility in Korea capable of treating large volumes of high-concentration liquid waste generated from semiconductor and display manufacturing processes.

The domestic market size for designated liquid waste treatment is estimated to be about 1 trillion KRW. Although it is growing mainly in the semiconductor and petrochemical industries, there is a shortage of companies equipped with technologies and facilities that meet the government's strengthened environmental regulations and management standards.

Having recently acquired Hanseong Cleantec to secure ultrapure water treatment technology, E&C Corporation now possesses both the capacity and permits for liquid waste treatment. It plans to establish stable and mutually beneficial relationships with entrusted wastewater and liquid waste generating companies.

Industrial water treatment requires connectivity across various sectors. Ultrapure water used in semiconductor production is treated as wastewater after use. Wastewater treatment generates sludge, which is either landfilled or dried for disposal. Leachate is produced, necessitating further wastewater treatment.

E&C Corporation has established a ‘total water treatment solution’ infrastructure capable of supplying semiconductor process water such as ultrapure water, entrusted wastewater treatment, liquid waste treatment, and waste recycling. Through strengthening synergies among business divisions and achieving economies of scale, the company plans to grow into the leading company in the industrial water treatment sector this year.
