[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] "Victory + Rookie of the Year."
‘Dream Tour Money Queen’ Kim Jae-hee (20, Woori Financial Group) has a bold ambition. Last year, she topped the money list on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Dream (2nd tier) Tour and proudly realized her dream of entering the ‘big league.’ Kim Jae-hee, who said, "I still cannot forget the feeling of attending the awards ceremony as the Dream Tour money winner," smiled brightly, saying, "I want to attend the awards ceremony again at the end of this year," and "I am working hard aiming for victory and the Rookie of the Year award."
Kim Jae-hee is a promising player on the KLPGA Tour. She started playing golf after going to the practice range with her father in the 6th grade of elementary school and being recommended by a lesson pro. In 2018, she was selected for the national team reserve squad, recognizing her potential, and in 2019, she finally earned the Taegeuk mark (national team). During her amateur days, she showed formidable skills competing against ‘pro seniors’ with a 13th place at the Celltrion Queens Masters and 15th at the High1 Resort Ladies Open.
She is regarded as a ‘super rookie’ following the lineage of Kim Hyo-joo (26, Lotte), Lee Jeong-eun 6 (25, Daebang Construction), Choi Hye-jin (22, Lotte), and Yoo Hae-ran (20, SK Networks). In November 2019, she ranked 6th in the full member selection tournament and went straight to the Dream Tour the following year. She was exceptional from the start, winning her debut tournament. After winning the Gunsan CC Dream Tour 1st round in May last year, she also dominated the West Ocean CC Dream Tour 5th round in June and the Hanse-Phoenix CC Dream Tour 13th round in August.
With three wins on the Dream Tour and eight top-10 finishes, she rose to first place on the money list (107 million KRW). Above all, her consistent play is her strength. She advanced to the final round in all 20 Dream Tour tournaments, an impressive feat. She ranked first in average score (69.57). Her iron shots and putting are also excellent, ranking 13th in greens in regulation (81.18%) and 9th in average putts (30.14). Since January, she has been focusing on strength and fitness training in Jeju Island.
Recently, she has been improving her practical shot sense by playing rounds. Her role model is Park In-bee (33, KB Financial Group), a ‘career golden slammer’ who has won four different major championships and an Olympic gold medal. "I want to emulate Park In-bee pro’s strong mentality and composure," she said. Kim Jae-hee, who said, "Many people have high expectations for me," added, "Thanks to that expectation, I am more motivated and practicing hard," and confidently promised, "I will show a great performance."
