Jinju City Provides Veterans' Benefits Allowance to Spouses of War Veterans

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, amended the ‘Jinju City Ordinance on the Honor and Support for National Veterans’ last year and has been providing a monthly honor allowance of 50,000 KRW to the spouses of veterans who passed away since January this year. In March, the city announced that it paid the allowance to 459 people.

Applications can be submitted by filling out the application form available at the town or township office or the dong administrative welfare center of the applicant’s address, along with the veteran’s national merit certificate or confirmation from the local veterans affairs office chief, the spouse’s ID, and bankbook. Those already registered as bereaved families of national veterans with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and receiving the allowance are excluded from the application.

A city official stated, “Since the honor allowance can only be paid upon application by the eligible person, we are promoting it through various channels. We strongly encourage those who have not yet applied to do so.”

Meanwhile, the city is practicing warm patriotism by paying various allowances totaling 5.4 billion KRW annually to about 3,800 national veterans and their families, enhancing the honor and pride of patriotic families.
