Jeonnam Western Region Child Protection Agency Holds Meeting on Child Abuse System Response


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Western Region Child Protection Agency announced on the 9th that it held a meeting at the Mokpo Haetsalarae Group Home to prepare for the implementation of the 'Immediate Separation System.'


The meeting was held with the participation of Im Gwangmuk, head of the Jeonnam Western Region Child Protection Agency; Choi Jonggyun, Director of Population and Child Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare; Jang Hwajeong, Head of Child Protection at the Child Rights Guarantee Institute; Kim Seonju, Director of Women and Family Policy at Jeollanam-do Provincial Office; Jeong Byeonghyeon, Team Leader of Child Welfare at Jeollanam-do Provincial Office; Kim Gwiyoung, Team Leader of Child Protection at Mokpo City Hall; and Kang Seonmi, Director of Mokpo Haetsalarae Group Home.


The 'Immediate Separation System' is a system that will be implemented from the 30th, allowing local governments to separate and protect children suspected of abuse when there have been two or more suspected child abuse reports within one year, and when strong suspicion of abuse exists or when guardians interfere with the child's responses during investigations, until the local government decides on protective measures.


At the meeting, participants shared difficulties faced in the field of child protection ahead of the implementation of the 'Immediate Separation System' and discussed cooperation measures among government ministries, local governments, and related organizations to ensure smooth implementation of the system.


Im Gwangmuk, head of the Jeonnam Western Region Child Protection Agency, said, "There is a need to clearly distinguish the roles of the public and private sectors for the effective implementation of the 'Immediate Separation System.' This meeting provided an opportunity to establish a smooth communication system regarding work coordination between public and private sectors for the settlement and stable operation of the new system."


Choi Jonggyun, Director of Population and Child Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated, "We will pay attention to improving the on-site response capabilities of child abuse dedicated officials and the working conditions of child protection agencies to ensure the safe protection of abused children and seek maximum support."
