[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, was finally selected for the Ministry of Environment's 'Smart Green City Contest Project' last year, securing 10 billion KRW in national funding. On the 9th, Hong Jeong-gi, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Environment, visited Gangjin Bay Ecological Park, the target site of Gangjin-gun's 'Smart Green City Project.'


Before the full-scale launch of the Smart Green City project to enhance urban climate resilience from this year to 2022, Vice Minister Hong was the first to visit Gangjin-gun, which was uniquely selected as a comprehensive leading type among county-level units nationwide, and inspected the site together with Lee Seung-ok, the mayor of Gangjin-gun.


On this day, Gangjin-gun explained the Smart Green City project plan at the sailboat observatory within Gangjin Bay Ecological Park, which offers a panoramic view of the Gangjin Bay area, and introduced the preservation value and beauty of the ecosystem around Gangjin Bay where the Tamjin River meets the bay.


Additionally, to restore the ecosystem around Gangjin Bay and to create synergy effects for the Smart Green City project, they proposed that the '2022 Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Contest Project' be selected.


Vice Minister Hong stated, “I hope the project plan will be carried out solidly so that Gangjin-gun becomes a model smart green city, and I ask for active cooperation to strengthen the government's carbon neutrality implementation.”


Mayor Lee Seung-ok expressed his ambition, saying, “We will speedily promote the Smart Green City project linked to the government's 2050 carbon neutrality implementation reinforcement and foster Gangjin-gun as the 'No. 1 Smart Green City nationwide.'”


Meanwhile, Gangjin-gun plans to invest a total of 16.7 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW in national funding, by 2022 to carry out various projects aimed at restoring the green ecosystem in the areas of Nampo, Mok-ri, Pyeong-dong, and Gangjin Bay Ecological Park.
