Receiving 2 Billion KRW in National Funding, Building a Total of 4 Billion KRW Smart City Solutions by Year-End... Establishing 40 Smart Poles, 20 Smart Crosswalks, and 8 Smart Bus Stops
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) has been finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘2021 Smart City Solution Expansion Project,’ jointly applied with Seoul City, receiving 2 billion KRW in national funding and securing local government contributions to build a smart city solution worth a total of 4 billion KRW.
This contest was organized to expand and disseminate smart city solutions with proven project effectiveness to enhance the perceived quality of smart city services.
Previously, since 2019, the district has been implementing projects to build a Dongjak-gu-type smart city, including ▲establishing the Dongjak-gu Smart City Plan ▲constructing a smart safety pedestrian path for children at Seoul Daerim Elementary School ▲creating smart safety villages in Sadang 1-dong and Sadang 4-dong, aiming to solve residents’ daily life problems in a more advanced way.
By the end of the year, the district plans to create a ‘Protecting (Ho) and Resting (Hyu)’ Dongjak area by installing ▲40 smart poles ▲20 smart crosswalks ▲8 smart bus stops in the Sadang-ro to Sangdo-ro section, where floating population and traffic volume are expected to increase due to the construction of Jangseungbaegi Comprehensive Administrative Town and the Sadang-ro expansion project.
Smart poles are smart streetlights equipped with RGB LEDs capable of adjusting brightness and color, wireless public Wi-Fi, CCTV, and vehicle speed detection radar sensors, enhancing pedestrian safety and convenience while enabling linkage with various smart city services.
Smart crosswalks use floor-type LED pedestrian signals with brightness adjustable according to weather and environment, and crosswalk object recognition sensors to prevent jaywalking, guiding pedestrians to cross safely at night.
Additionally, smart bus stops protect residents from heat waves, cold snaps, and various fine dust by featuring automatic screen doors and heating and cooling facilities. They also provide secure storage for electric kickboards, contributing to solving traffic safety issues by securing pedestrian spaces.
Moon Jeongsoon, Director of the Future City Division, said, “With this contest selection, we will protect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and provide spaces where residents can rest during heat waves and cold spells, thereby enhancing resident convenience. We will continue to improve residents’ quality of life by providing services utilizing advanced technology.”
