Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Modernization of Our Wheat Storage Facilities

Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Modernization of Our Wheat Storage Facilities

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 8th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' 'Domestic Wheat Drying and Storage Facility Support Project.'

The goal of this project is to enhance the competitiveness of domestic wheat by adding low-temperature storage functions to storage facilities that were previously used only for simple stacking, and by improving outdated drying facilities.

The project site is the 4,000-ton Korean Domestic Wheat Agricultural Cooperative storage facility located in Donggok-dong, Gwangsan-gu, where a total of 1 billion KRW, including 400 million KRW in national funds secured through this public offering, will be invested by next year.

The existing storage facility, which could only be used for simple storage, was greatly affected by temperature and humidity.

However, with this project, stable stockpiling will be possible, and Gwangsan-gu expects that the production volume and distribution competitiveness of domestic wheat will increase.

To foster the domestic wheat industry, Gwangsan-gu is promoting this year ▲ production complex education consulting ▲ production cost support ▲ consumption promotion activation projects.

Kim Sam-ho, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, “Considering food security, increased farm income, and environmental value, domestic wheat is a very important strategic asset for us,” adding, “Gwangsan-gu, which played a leading role in the early restoration of domestic wheat, will strive for the revival of domestic wheat.”
