[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 9th that it was selected as the best institution in the ‘2020 Fiscal Year Local Tax Administration Comprehensive Evaluation’ conducted on the five districts of Gwangju.
As a result, Seo-gu received a prize money of 80 million won and an institutional commendation.
This evaluation was conducted to provide incentives for autonomous districts' efforts to increase tax revenue and to induce healthy competition, comprehensively assessing 48 items across three areas including local tax administration, local tax arrears, and non-tax revenue.
Seo-gu was highly evaluated for its efforts to implement various collection measures, such as conducting property inquiries immediately upon occurrence of arrears based on accurate tax imposition and notification, enforcing property seizure on arrears, and implementing a responsibility collection system for all employees in Tax Departments 1 and 2.
In particular, through strong arrears collection activities such as collecting high-value arrears, analyzing arrears data, and license plate seizure activities, Seo-gu collected 6.2 billion won, an increase of 700 million won compared to the previous year, collecting 354.8 billion won, which is 98.2% of the total local tax imposed amount of 361.2 billion won, thereby greatly contributing to the spread of a culture of sincere tax payment.
A Seo-gu official said, “We achieved excellent results thanks to the residents’ sincere tax payment awareness and the united work performance of the tax department staff,” and added, “We will continue to do our best for the convenience of taxpayers and the financial soundness of the district.”
