Jeongeup-si, Bicycle Insurance Enrollment for Citizen Awards 11 Consecutive Years

Jeongeup-si, Bicycle Insurance Enrollment for Citizen Awards 11 Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 9th that it has enrolled all citizens in bicycle insurance so that they can ride bicycles with peace of mind.

The city is enrolling all citizens in bicycle insurance again this year as the number of citizens using bicycles increases due to the expansion of bicycle infrastructure and participation in eco-friendly living to reduce air pollution.

Since 2010, the city has been the first in Jeollabuk-do to enroll in bicycle insurance, allowing many citizens to receive insurance benefits.

This year, a one-year contract was signed from the 8th of this month to March 7th of next year, ensuring minimum financial support in case of unexpected accidents while using bicycles.

Citizens registered as residents in Jeongeup City automatically become insured without any separate enrollment procedures.

Benefits can be received in case of accidents occurring while directly riding a bicycle or while riding a bicycle without driving it, and in case of sudden and accidental damage caused by a bicycle during road traffic.

When a reason for insurance payment occurs, the insured or legal heirs can submit a claim form along with relevant supporting documents to the insurance company.

In addition, the city is promoting a bicycle helmet purchase support project to establish a culture of bicycle safety and encourage regular bicycle riding.

Any Jeongeup citizen who owns a bicycle and participates in regular bicycle riding (excluding previous applicants) can apply.

The city supports 50% of the purchase cost (up to 30,000 KRW), and to receive the support, applicants must apply at the relevant eup/myeon office or dong community center of their registered residence.

Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, “We expect that promoting bicycle use will greatly contribute to improving citizens’ health and reducing traffic congestion,” and added, “We plan to continue policies such as insurance enrollment so that citizens can use bicycles without inconvenience.”
