"Protecting Native OTT Pride" TVING Aggressively Invests in Original Content

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] CJ ENM's online video service (OTT) TVING has been accelerating efforts to strengthen its lineup through investment in original content and exclusive content releases since its establishment as an independent corporation last October. The genres are diverse, including dramas, variety shows, movies, and K-pop events.

TVING announced on the 9th that it plans to release about 20 original contents throughout this year. First, the drama "Writing Your Destiny," created by Kim Eun-sook, the writer of "Goblin," will be released on the 26th, and the movie "Seobok," starring actors Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, is scheduled to be released on the 15th of next month. Additionally, the drama "Welcome to the Witch's Restaurant," starring Song Ji-hyo, which began filming for a summer release, is also in preparation. "KCON:TACT3," featuring performances by 26 K-pop groups including Kang Daniel, Sunmi, and iKON, will be exclusively broadcast domestically and available for nine days starting from the 20th.

Hwang Hye-jung, Head of TVING Content Business Division, said, "The essence that determines the success or failure of an OTT platform is ultimately the entertainment value of the content," adding, "We plan to quickly transfer CJ ENM's content production know-how accumulated across various genres such as broadcasting, movies, and music to TVING, and aggressively increase investment and collaboration with talented external creators to expand specialized services for TVING users."

Since its spin-off from CJ ENM last October and establishment as an independent corporation, TVING has been focusing its capabilities on securing original content and advancing technology. To strengthen its business, TVING has also collaborated with JTBC, Naver, and others. It plans to expand its portfolio by releasing about 20 original contents within the year and aims to establish itself as South Korea's leading OTT platform with 5 million paid subscribers by 2023.
