[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Seong Il-jong, a member of the Emergency Response Committee of the People Power Party, dismissed reports suggesting political communication between Kim Jong-in, the chairman of the Emergency Response Committee, and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, saying "They have never met." However, he drew attention by noting that Chairman Kim had given positive remarks about former Yoon.
On the 9th, Seong appeared on MBC Radio’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus’ and was asked, "Have Chairman Kim and former Yoon ever met?" He replied, "Chairman Kim has never met former Yoon separately to discuss politics even once." He also repeatedly denied reports claiming there was prior communication.
However, Seong conveyed that Chairman Kim evaluates former Yoon positively. He said, "(Former Yoon) is a righteous person, and Chairman Kim assesses him as someone with principles and convictions capable of managing the country." On the 8th, right after the Emergency Response Committee meeting, Chairman Kim praised former Yoon’s leading position in the next presidential candidate approval rating polls, saying, "Former Yoon seems to have caught a moment of the stars," and "Now that former Yoon has joined the opposition camp, if he voices his own opinions, that itself will be a great help."
But on the same day, Chairman Kim said regarding any future meeting with former Yoon, "I am not considering (a meeting)," and stated, "I personally have no reason to meet former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol immediately."
Finally, Seong emphasized, "I heard that Chairman Kim has a connection with former Yoon’s father," but added, "However, I think they have had no time to meet at all."
