[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Kia has confirmed the name of its first dedicated electric vehicle model as 'EV6' and unveiled it for the first time.

On the 9th, Kia announced that it had released teaser videos and images of the EV6 on its global website. The EV6 is Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle model built on Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP.

Earlier in January, Kia announced its new company name, logo, slogan, and brand direction, revealing plans to launch seven new dedicated electric vehicle lineups by 2027. The EV6 is the first model in Kia's dedicated electric vehicle lineup and the first to feature the new logo. The company views it as playing a pivotal role in accelerating Kia's mid- to long-term business strategy, 'Plan S.'

The teaser video and images of the EV6 released that day highlighted a dynamic SUV design optimized for electric vehicles. The side silhouette features clean and sharp lines refined from the front hood to the rear spoiler, making the vehicle feel both rich and sleek.

In particular, the smoothly raked windshield glass vividly conveys a sense of swift forward motion, representing the dynamic nature unique to electric vehicles. Additionally, the front daytime running lights (DRL) apply a 'moving light pattern' inspired by electronic pixels that compose digital images, adding a sophisticated image unique to electric vehicles. The rear LED cluster located at the back is a distinctive element exclusive to the EV6, serving not only as lighting but also shaping unique patterns through light as a medium, enhancing its futuristic character.

Karim Habib, Executive Vice President of Design at Kia, said, "Based on Kia's brand direction, 'Movement that inspires,' the EV6 is a space that meets diverse customer needs and provides time and inspiration." He added, "Kia will continuously strive to offer customers bold, original, and creative mobility experiences."

Kia plans to reveal detailed features of the EV6 through an online world premiere event at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, along with the EV6 teaser release, Kia unveiled a new naming system for its dedicated electric vehicles. The system combines 'EV,' representing electric vehicles, with numbers. The company explained that by using a representative noun meaning electric vehicle, customers can intuitively recognize the dedicated electric vehicle lineup. Furthermore, the numbers indicate the position and role within the dedicated electric vehicle lineup.

Kia aims to enhance the recognition and familiarity of the EV name with the new dedicated electric vehicle naming system and secure consistency by applying the same names in the global market.
