Seongbuk-gu's Full Effort to Bridge Learning Gaps for Vulnerable Children

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is focusing administrative efforts to address the learning gap and care gaps among vulnerable children.

Amid growing concerns about the learning gap and care gaps for vulnerable children due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, Seongbuk-gu is seeking various solutions centered on Dream Start to resolve these issues.

Seongbuk-gu is first actively pursuing agreements with educational institutions. By signing MOUs with local Taekwondo and piano academies, learning centers, and study material providers, they have connected children in need of learning support. So far, agreements have been made with 13 educational institutions, and the number of participating institutions is continuously expanding.

They also support personalized education using artificial intelligence, performance analysis, and self-directed learning, ensuring thorough efforts to close the learning gap for children even in non-face-to-face situations.

Additionally, through agreements with psychological counseling centers, they are promoting the psychological stability of children and their families, and through MOUs with hospitals and clinics, they are fostering healthy growth for vulnerable children.

In particular, families facing difficulties due to various household problems are being carefully managed through case management to prevent child abuse.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “I believe that the joint efforts of administration and the community to help children and adolescents grow into healthy adults is the first step in preparing the future of the city,” and added, “We will strive to encourage more participation from local resources.”
