eBay Korea SmilePay introduces T'way Pay, a simple payment method with T'way Air eBay Korea's simple payment service 'SmilePay' teams up with T'way Air to launch the upgraded 'T'wayPay'.

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] eBay Korea's simple payment service 'SmilePay' announced on the 9th that it will launch an upgraded 'T'way Pay' in partnership with T'way Air. This is the second case of 'Private Label Payment (PLP)' following 'Shilla Pay,' launched in 2019 in collaboration with Shilla Internet Duty Free.

SmilePay is actively expanding partnerships in the aviation and travel industries to adapt to the post-COVID-19 era. It has formed partnerships with major domestic duty-free brands, including T'way Air, and has introduced SmilePay for airline ticket payments on Gmarket and Auction, subsidiaries of eBay Korea.

Through this partnership, 'T'way Pay,' launched in 2019, is reborn as a private label payment service equipped with SmilePay. It implements the existing user experience of SmilePay directly into T'way Pay. The PLP model, first introduced by SmilePay as a simple payment method based on domestic distribution, was designed to reduce the service development, operation, and fee burdens for external merchants launching their own simple payment systems, and to help build a stable user base after launch.

The 15 million SmilePay members can make payments on T'way Pay by simply entering their password without needing to register their cards again. Customers who have used SmilePay on Gmarket, Auction, and G9, subsidiaries of eBay Korea, can use T'way Pay immediately without a separate registration process by agreeing once to the T'way Pay terms of use. Compared to existing T'way Pay users who had to re-register all payment methods, this greatly improves payment convenience.

eBay Korea explained that the PLP 'Shilla Pay,' launched in 2019, has also received positive customer responses due to its high payment convenience and various benefits.

The synergy between T'way Pay and SmilePay has increased the benefits customers can enjoy. When paying with T'way Pay, 0.3% of the payment amount is accumulated as SmileCash. Accumulated SmileCash can be used like cash at SmilePay partner merchants, including T'way Air, Gmarket, Auction, and G9. Previously accumulated SmileCash can also be used for payments.

An event celebrating the T'way Pay partnership will be held for one month from March 22 to April 22. Customers who pay 70,000 KRW or more with any credit or debit card on T'way Air will receive a T'way Pay exclusive discount coupon worth 10,000 KRW (discount coupons may run out early).

More details can be found on the T'way Air app and website.

Kim Kyung-hee, Head of SmilePay Partnership Sales Team at eBay Korea, said, "Building on the success of Shilla Pay, it is encouraging to provide customers with an enhanced shopping experience through T'way Pay. We will continue to increase various benefits to improve the convenience and usability of T'way Pay in the long term."
