Dongjak-gu to Provide Up to 300,000 KRW Adoption Support for Abandoned Animals Starting This Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will provide up to 300,000 KRW to residents who adopt abandoned animals from the local animal protection center starting this year, covering expenses such as disease diagnosis fees.

This project is being promoted to alleviate the financial burden on pet owners and lovers, as the pet population is increasing but the costs involved in adopting abandoned animals are not insignificant.

The support covers ▲ disease diagnosis fees ▲ treatment fees ▲ vaccinations ▲ neutering surgery fees ▲ microchip animal registration fees (including registration at the time of adoption), with a maximum support of 300,000 KRW per adopted animal. However, if neutering surgery is not included, the maximum support is 200,000 KRW.

Eligible recipients are Dongjak-gu residents who have adopted lost or abandoned animals for companionship purposes after January 1 of this year and have completed animal registration. After receiving a certificate of adoption from the animal protection center and undergoing the supported treatments, they only need to cover costs exceeding 300,000 KRW.

The district has been accepting applications for abandoned animal adoption expenses since March 1, and the support period lasts until the budget is exhausted.

For more detailed information about the project, inquiries can be made to the Health and Hygiene Division of Dongjak-gu Office.

Jung Wooseok, head of the Health and Hygiene Division, stated, “Through this abandoned animal adoption support project, we will do our best to discourage euthanasia of animals and reduce the economic burden on adopters so that a mature companion culture can be established.”
