[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 84 from the previous day, totaling 334.


According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments on the 8th, the total number of new COVID-19 cases is 334, with 235 cases (70.4%) in the metropolitan area and 99 cases (29.6%) in non-metropolitan areas.


By province and city, there are 141 cases in Gyeonggi, 74 in Seoul, 32 in Gwangju, 20 in Incheon, 14 in Chungbuk, 12 in Busan, 11 each in Gangwon and Chungnam, 7 in Ulsan, 3 in Daegu, 2 each in Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeju, and 1 each in Daejeon, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam. No confirmed cases have been reported yet in Sejong.


The number of new confirmed cases to be announced as of midnight on the 9th is expected to be around 400, higher than this. On the previous day, 96 new cases were reported by midnight, totaling 346.


New confirmed cases had been gradually decreasing since the beginning of the year but surged to the 600s after the Lunar New Year holiday and have recently remained in the 300-400 range.


From the 2nd, the number of new confirmed cases over the past week ranged from 344 to 444, averaging 399 cases per day.


Looking at the social distancing level indicators, the weekly daily average of confirmed cases is 381, corresponding to social distancing level 2 (nationwide exceeding 300 cases).


Concerns are rising that the spread could intensify at any time as daily infections continue in workplaces, hospitals, and bowling alleys, and cluster outbreaks have been confirmed in schools.


Regarding the livestock products market in Anseong-si, Gyeonggi, 50 people have been confirmed positive so far, and 16 students at a high school in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and 4 students at a high school in Jeju have each tested positive.
