[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party fiercely criticized Kim Jin-ae, the Open Democratic Party candidate for Seoul mayor, who referred to the sexual harassment by former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon as a 'flaw,' saying she is "not qualified to be a candidate for Seoul mayor."
On the 8th, the Justice Party held a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office, pointing out that "Kim's remark calling the sexual harassment a 'flaw' shows that she is 'unqualified' as a candidate for Seoul mayor."
Spokesperson Jo Hye-min stated, "Candidate Kim made remarks defending former Mayor Park Won-soon's sexual harassment as a 'mistake' and a 'flaw,' and even expressed doubts about the investigation findings of the National Human Rights Commission, which acknowledged the sexual harassment. This is an irresponsible statement that completely disregards the victim."
Spokesperson Jo added, "Moreover, as a candidate running in a by-election caused by sexual violence by a local government head, she clearly shows her lack of qualification," emphasizing, "We hope she does not think that merely applauding and lecturing about the 'courage to raise voices against gender discrimination' is the role of a Seoul mayor candidate."
Candidate Kim, at a press conference on the 7th, said, "We must coldly face the merits and demerits of former Mayor Park Won-soon," adding, "How can any person be flawless? In my judgment, the biggest fault of former Mayor Park is that even if he had his own flaws regarding sexual harassment, he left abruptly without any explanation or clarification."
