[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Sung Yoon-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, explained that the controversy over surveillance of private organizations opposing the nuclear phase-out policy is a "simple trend report."

Minister Sung made this statement on the 8th at the plenary meeting of the National Assembly's Industry, Trade, and Small and Medium Venture Business Committee.

This was in response to Gu Ja-geun, a member of the People Power Party, pointing out that after reviewing a list of 530 deleted files related to the early shutdown of Wolseong Unit 1, a significant number of files suspected of civilian surveillance were found.

Minister Sung said, "I understand that the relevant materials are trend reports," and explained, "The enforcement rules also stipulate that necessary trends regarding nuclear power generation should be prepared for related organizations and groups such as civic organizations and resident councils." He added, "Currently, the relevant materials are related to a trial and cannot be disclosed."
