[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Daegu Women's Association Council (hereinafter Daegu Women’s Association) will hold its inauguration and retirement ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 9th at the Culture and Arts Center.
The newly appointed President Shin Jeong-ok (61, President of the Korea Mothers’ Association Daegu City Federation) will lead the women’s community in Daegu for the next two years.
About 90 people, including Mayor Kwon Young-jin, Jang Sang-su, Chairperson of the Daegu City Council, city council members, the superintendent of education, and members of the women’s association council, will attend the inauguration and retirement ceremony.
The congratulatory performance for the inauguration will feature an ensemble by the Clear Sound Harmonica Ensemble, composed of graduates from Daegu Seongbo School, which President Shin has supported regularly, and a celebratory song by Jitri Art Company, the public relations ambassador of the Daegu Women’s Association.
On this day, President Shin plans to donate 100 sacks of rice (Seongmi) received instead of floral wreaths to free meal centers, and also present a scholarship of 1 million won to the Clear Sound Harmonica Ensemble of Seongbo School, demonstrating her commitment to supporting neighbors in need.
The Daegu Women’s Association Council consists of 39 organizations with about 113,000 members. Since its establishment in July 1982, it has been at the forefront of improving women’s status and realizing gender equality.
Former President Seo Jeom-bok is evaluated to have further elevated the status of the women’s association council by strengthening the harmony between Yeongnam and Honam regions through mutual delivery of quarantine supplies via the ‘Daegu-Gwangju Women’s Association Moonlight Alliance’ and supporting marginalized groups in Gwangju, even amid the COVID-19 crisis last year.
