No.1 Vehicle Operation Management Solution
Real-time Monitoring of Driving Records and Speeding...Prevention of Driver Accident Causes
Market Expansion in Food Delivery and Rental Car Services
The vehicle operation management solution ‘UVIS’ is gaining attention as a new growth engine for the security company S-1. This is because interest in solutions that manage delivery vehicles has increased as the trend of dawn delivery has spread and the food delivery service market has grown due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. S-1 plans to expand the market into various fields such as rental cars and school buses in response to changing trends.
According to S-1 on the 11th, the number of vehicles using UVIS reached about 123,000 last year. It has grown more than 10% annually from about 14,000 vehicles in 2013, solidifying its position as the industry leader.
◆Growth Alongside Dawn Delivery=The recent surge in demand for vehicle operation management solutions has been influenced by the growth of the domestic dawn delivery market. According to a survey by the Samsung Transportation Safety Culture Institute, the dawn delivery market size is estimated to have grown to 1.5 trillion KRW last year. This is nearly double the approximately 800 billion KRW market size in 2019 within just one year. As the market grew, traffic accidents related to delivery also surged. According to the Samsung Transportation Safety Culture Institute’s ‘Dawn Delivery Cargo Truck Traffic Accident Status,’ the number of commercial cargo truck accidents occurring during late-night hours reached 1,668 in the first half of last year, about 3.3 times more than the same period the previous year. This has increased interest in vehicle operation management solutions that can safely provide dawn delivery services.
UVIS installs digital driving recorders inside vehicles to monitor routes and speeding in real time. This allows preemptive blocking of driver behaviors that may cause accidents. In one company, after introducing UVIS to shared vehicles, the annual accident rate dropped from 87% to 5.8%.
It also offers a ‘temperature management system’ that helps deliver fresh food, which accounts for most dawn delivery products such as meal kits and ready meals. The system monitors the temperature inside food transport vehicles in real time and automatically notifies the customer control center if the temperature rises or falls. This prevents spoilage of delivery products even if drivers fail to turn on the temperature control device or if it malfunctions during loading and unloading. Many companies, including CJ CheilJedang, SPC Group, and Maeil Dairies, have adopted this service.
It also provides a dawn safe delivery management system. This solution allows store owners to monitor the operation status of delivery vehicles in real time and check the delivery driver’s visit history via text message every morning. An S-1 official explained, “While UVIS ensures vehicle safety during cargo transportation, the dawn safe delivery management system is a solution responsible for the safety of delivery products,” adding, “It will create great synergy throughout the entire logistics system.”
◆Expansion into New Markets Such as Food Delivery=UVIS can be applied not only to vehicles but also to two-wheelers. Through GPS location tracking, the location of two-wheelers can be monitored in real time to prevent theft, and managers can monitor to prevent reckless driving. Recently, a well-known domestic delivery company adopted UVIS.
S-1 is responding to various markets by providing customized services for each sector. For rental cars, remote control of vehicles is possible, allowing the engine to be turned off remotely in case of theft. It also automatically notifies users of driving logs, fuel usage information, and consumable replacement cycles. Starting this year, with the implementation of the ‘Mandatory Installation System for Digital Tachographs (DTG) on Children’s School Buses,’ S-1 plans to launch a ‘School Bus Safe Operation System’ that allows simultaneous monitoring of vehicle operation records, location information, and boarding information of children and students.
An S-1 official said, “Interest in logistics solutions is increasing further in the post-COVID-19 era,” and added, “As a socially responsible company, we will do our best to build a safe logistics system so that the public can conveniently use dawn delivery and food delivery services.”
