[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 8th that it will carry out the 'Daegu Youth Employment Support Card' project, which provides 200,000 won worth of local love gift certificates to help young people who are experiencing an employment cold wave due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

The 'Daegu Youth Employment Support Card' project is being conducted as part of the Daegu-type Buffer Plus Fund, a Daegu-style COVID economic quarantine measure in 2021 aimed at supplementing government support blind spots.

Youths preparing for employment in the Daegu area can apply through the Youth Social Entry Activity Support System from the 9th to the 19th. The target group includes unemployed youths who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from high school or university in 2020-2021, reside in Daegu, and are not enrolled in employment insurance.

If the number of applicants exceeds the support scale (15,000 people), selection will be made based on priority such as recent loss of part-time jobs and job-seeking period (graduation year).

At the end of last year, the number of employed youths in their 20s and 30s in Daegu was 368,000 (announced by the Northeast Regional Statistics Office in January), which is a decrease of 15,000 compared to the previous year.

Mayor Kwon Young-jin of Daegu encouraged, "I hope the Employment Support Card will be a warm companionship of the local community and a support for social entry for young people who are struggling in the COVID crisis."
